Support for River Communities Impacted by Hurricane Helene

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, our hearts go out to the RMS members and river communities across the southeast who are mourning the loss of loved ones, homes, and livelihoods. The pain we’re all feeling is beyond words.

Our Board and Chapter Officers are actively reaching out to those in the Southeast to understand how each of you has been impacted and how we can best support you. We’ve heard from members whose experiences vary from being unaffected to those who are without essential services like power, water, and internet. Some have even suffered the devastating loss of their business infrastructure. Many of you have also kindly checked in with our members and staff, offering help. Blue Ridge Public Radio has highlighted several organizations that are collecting supplies and donations to support community relief efforts.

We know this is an overwhelming time, and that right now, the path forward may feel unclear. But please know we are committed to staying in touch with those affected in the weeks, months, and years ahead. Whether it’s helping to spread the word about cleanup efforts and fundraisers, or connecting you with river management experts and restoration resources, we are here for you.

With care and solidarity,

RMS Board and Staff
