Boating in blue jeans? Hiking in heels?! A discussion on understanding perspectives to empower river managers

River Management Roundtable
May 25, 2021 | 3:30 - 4:30 EST

Join us for the first in a series of workshops intended to identify and grow your ability to thrive when working with those whose perspectives differ from yours: that’s pretty much most people! This material is easy to apply with a current office mate, less easy with a brand new boss, and a stretch in an office whose team’s native language is not the same as yours! In this roundtable, we will discuss how all of our perspectives differ widely (even among seemingly homogenous groups) and how understanding and awareness of ours and our constituents' perspectives can build empathy and empower engagement on your team and river. This, as with subsequent Cultural Competency workshops this year, require no prior training, only your full attention. This session is open to all. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

About RMS River Management Roundtables

Each month, the River Management Society hosts virtual conversations with professional river, greenway, and water trails leaders, planners, and managers whose community, region, state and federal river will benefit from the experiences of peer-to-peer sharing. Our goal is to facilitate an open forum to support your work managing rivers. We work together to tackle common issues by asking questions, sharing solutions and building comradery.
