In this session, participants will learn the requirements fo r documenting free-flow, water quality, and Outstandingly Remarkable Values (ORVs), identify what makes a description suitable, and discuss how these river values descriptions impact projects in a WSR corridor. These skills h elp prepare participants to engage more effectively in planning, management , and monitoring actions on WSRs.

John Campbell has served as the U.S. Forest Service Southern Region Wilderness and Wild & Scenic River Program Manager since August 2017. He is graduate of the Warnell School of Forest Resources at the Univ ersity of Georgia. He worked on the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest fo r seven years before that as the Recreation, Engineering, Lands and Heritag e Staff Office and the Recreation Program Manager. Before that, he spent 1 0 years in Utah on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache and Ashley National Forests mana ging large recreation programs. He grew up splitting time between Utah and Georgia and spent most of his free time on public lands camping, hiking and fishing. John lives in Athens, GA and enjoys trips to the Chattooga Wild & amp; Scenic River for work and play. He stays busy with his family and two quickly-growing-up girls, Zoe and Finley. | |
Liz Townley is the National Wilderness and Wild & Sc enic Rivers Planner for the US Forest Service. Liz has 14 years’ experience with the BLM and Forest Service working in Wilderness, Wild and Scenic Riv ers and Recreation management. Her passion for rivers and all things wild c an be traced back to her pre-professional days growing up along the banks o f the Columbia River and years spent exploring the coastal ranges of Washin gton and Oregon. She is happiest with her husband Skeet, their two kids Sop hia and Jones and dog Garth out exploring public lands. |

Join us for a six-part W ild and Scenic River Training Series from January through June 2023! This s eries is designed to be participant-centered, include active discussion of Wild & Scenic River (WSR) related topics, and empower participants to c onnect with colleagues throughout the learning series. Our goal is for you to leave the sessions better equipped to engage in WSR planning, monitoring and decision-making processes.
This is for you if you are involved in Wild & Scenic River program planning, co ordination, partnership development, stakeholder communication, implementat ion and decision-making, visitor management and safety, natural and cultura l resource management, impact monitoring and assessment, and other activiti es.
RMS River Training Center instructo rs will facilitate the series using Zoom, interactive Google products, Padl et, and other virtual learning tools. It is important that participants can fully access and engage with these tools during the Zoom sessions with the ir cameras on and microphones enabled, ready to connect and learn together. Participation in all six sessions is requested but not required.
