Lodging


A block of rooms has been reserved at The Resort at Squaw Creek, located near Squaw Valley, home of the 1960 Olympics. In order to take full advantage of symposium events, as well as maximize your opportunity to network with colleagues, we encourage all participants to lodge at this first-class facility. (Please note: RMS will incur a penalty if the room minimum is not met.)

Single/double occupancy is $99.00 per night for a deluxe guestroom. In order to receive this special discount rate, you must make your reservation no later than April 1, 2004. A one-night deposit is required to confirm your reservation. If you make your reservation after April 1, 2004, the $99.00 rate may not apply, and your reservation is subject to availability. Mountain suites may also be reserved at $149.00, single or double occupancy.

In addition to your room rate, there is a daily resort fee so that many small charges may be eliminated. This $12.00 per room, per night fee covers guest service gratuities (including bellmen and valet), maid gratuities, daily paper, valley shuttle throughout Squaw Valley and to Tahoe City (Lake Tahoe), in-room coffee service, telephone credit card / 1 (800) access fee, local phone calls, incoming faxes, unlimited use of the health club facilities, and ski/golf valet and storage.

Please note: In determining your per diem rate, the closest incorporated city is Tahoe City, CA, with a federal per diem rate of $145 per day for lodging and $47 per day for meals.

Airlines


The Reno/Tahoe International Airport is located 42 miles east of The Resort at Squaw Creek. The following airlines provide service: Alaska, Aloha, America West, American, Continental, Frontier, Northwest, Delta (Skywest), Southwest and United. Shuttle Service


Two companies provide shuttle service between the Reno/Tahoe International Airport and The Resort at Squaw Creek. If you coordinate with other symposium attendees, you will save on the fares.

Reservations and cancellations are required the day prior by 3:00 pm. Shuttles run on the hour between 6:00 am - 11:00 pm from the airport and between 4:00 am - 10:00 pm to the airport. All riders should meet at Carousel #5 in the baggage claim area. Drivers will have a list of passenger names. Credit cards are accepted, or you may charge to your room at The Resort at Squaw Creek. (Please be advised that these prices and information may change. Be sure to verify all information at time of reservation.)

Important Note: Discount Rate
RMS has arranged for a “volume discount” with Squaw Creek Transportation so that your cost may be minimized. In order to qualify for any of the reduced fares indicated below, you must identify yourself when you make your reservation as a “RMS Symposium” attendee and there must be other symposium attendees on your shuttle. If you do not clearly identify yourself, you will be charged $57.50 per person each way, even if the van is full of other “RMS Symposium” riders.Prices are per person, one way.

Reservations are required 24 hours in advance. Seven shuttles depart daily from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport (7:30 am, 10:05 am, 12:35 pm, 3:05 pm, 5:35 pm, 8:05 pm, 10:35 pm). A shuttle departures from The Resort at Squaw Creek at 6:30 am, 9:00 am, 11:30 am, 2:00 pm, 4:30 pm, 7:00 pm, and 9:30 pm. Payment is cash-only at time of pick up. (Please be advised that these prices and information may change. Be sure to verify all information at time of reservation.)

Important Note: Possible Discount Rate
If you identify yourself when you make your reservation as a “RMS Symposium” attendee, it is possible that you will be given a discount. No Stress Express will not know until the day of reservations whether they are able to group RMS riders, or what the actual discount will be. If you do not clearly identify yourself, you will be charged the basic rate of $43.00 per person each way.



Rental Cars


The following rental car companies provide service from the Reno/Tahoe International Airport: Advantage, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National and Thrifty. Taxi service is also available.



Local Conditions and What to Bring


The Resort at Squaw Creek is located at 6,400 feet above sea level in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and is surrounded by the Tahoe National Forest. Weather conditions in this part of California in early May are spring-like, and can be either quite cool or warm. It is recommended that you check local conditions prior to departing for Lake Tahoe.

Here is a list of things to remember to bring in preparation for all conditions:



  • Waterproof windbreaker and insulating layers
  • Comfortable footwear for walking and hiking
  • Casual, comfortable clothes that can be layered
  • Hat and sunscreen
  • Wetsuit and paddle jacket or drysuit, and insulating layers for field trips
  • Appropriate outdoor clothing and equipment for any additional activities on your own time
  • Cell phones and pagers may or may not work depending on your service provider.

Deadlines & Cancellation Policy


Register for the symposium by March 1, 2004, to receive the early discount. After March 1, registrations will be accepted on a space-available basis at the higher registration rate. To ensure a reduced rate hotel room at The Resort at Squaw Creek, make your reservation by April 1, 2004.

Refunds will be mailed after the symposium to those who cancel in writing prior to April 9, 2004 (postmarked on or before). Any cancellations postmarked after April 9, as well as “no shows,” will not be eligible for refunds. All refunds are subject to a $30 processing fee.
