Poster Session Guidelines

Here are some general guidelines for the poster session:

1.      Materials should include the title and list of authors.

2.      Letters in the title should be at least 1 inch high.

3.      Posters are enhanced by having more figures, tables, color photographs, and charts – and less dense writing.

4.      Font size for writing should be no less than 24 point font.  Use 1-inch margins.

5.      Avoid use of fancy fonts. Use upper and lowercase letters.  Sans serif fonts read better from a distance and are recommended for headers and figures, but serif fonts are better for paragraphs of text.

6.      We are checking with the hotel on whether posters can be mounted on walls (and how), but our fall back position is that they will be mounted on table tops.

7.      If we can mount them on walls, the conference will provide appropriate tape/push pins.

8.      If we have to mount them on table tops, we will make sure there are materials (wooden dowels and tape) that allow posters to be propped up.  Posters should be stiff enough to be propped up at an angle – a recommended alternative is to purchase a tri-fold poster that is ready to go without need of a dowel.

9.      In either case, posters should not exceed 48 inches wide, and since standard poster board seems to come in 22 x 28 inch sizes, you can’t use more than two of those side by side.  A standard tri-fold poster display is 48 x 36 – see links below.

10.  Posters may be set up starting Monday May 17 about 5 pm or anytime during the day on Tuesday.  They must be set up for the poster session on Tuesday at 5 pm.  You may leave it up through the conference (Thursday evening).

11.  We recommend having 50 copies of an abstract.
