and back to South Sioux City . Participants
on Trips 1-3 are also
responsible for hotel reservations
in Valentine on Saturday night prior to
the
float trips (and, if desired, on Sunday night for those
on Trips 1 or 2). |
Trip 1 - Niobrara River - Fort Niobrara
National Wildlife Refuge to Graham’s Camp
Sunday, May 7 ( 8:00 am; fast-water float–Class I–via
canoe or kayak)
A one-day guided float (14 miles) on the
Niobrara National Scenic River. Put in on the Fort
Niobrara NWR near Valentine, NE, and float through a
six-mile stretch of designated wilderness where paddlers
may see beaver, mink, great-blue heron, osprey, turtles,
and bison. Walk the Fort Falls Nature Trail. At Smith
Falls State Park, view Nebraska’s
tallest falls (63’) and hike the McAllister Nature Trail. Numerous
waterfalls, pine-clad hills, and steep, white cliffs
are added scenic attractions. Enjoy lunch, and a catered
steak dinner and campfire at Graham’s Camp. Return to a hotel
in Valentine or camp out at Graham’s
Camp (additional fee of $15 includes tent, camping and
Monday breakfast). Drive back to South Sioux City on
Monday (4-5 hour drive).

Trip 2 - Niobrara River - Berry Bridge
to Wildcat Camp

canoe or kayak)
A one-day guided float (14 miles) on
the Niobrara National Scenic River. View Berry Falls
and the historic Berry Bridge. At Smith Falls State
Park see Nebraska’s
tallest falls (63’)
and hike the McAllister Nature Trail. Eat a riverside
lunch at Graham’s
Camp. Enjoy Big Cedar Creek Falls, paddle past Fritz’s Island,
climb Stairstep Falls, and learn about The Nature
Conservancy’s
Niobrara Valley Preserve. Take out at Wildcat Camp
and return to Graham’s
Camp for a catered steak dinner and campfire. Return
to a hotel in Valentine or camp out at Graham’s Camp (additional
fee of $15 includes tent, camping and Monday breakfast).
Drive back to South Sioux City on Monday (4-5 hour
drive).

Trip 3 - Niobrara River - Fort Niobrara
National Wildlife Refuge to Wildcat Camp
Sunday-Monday,
May 7-8 (8:00 am; fast-water float–Class II– via canoe or
kayak)
This will be the same float trip as Trip 1 (top),
with all participants camping at Graham’s Camp. The following morning
after breakfast participants will float to Wildcat Camp.
A catered steak dinner Sunday evening, as well as Monday
breakfast and lunch on both days, will be provided. Tents
are provided—bring
a sleeping bag and pad, as well as personal items.
