Job Specifics: Special Information: These are River Ranger position(s) assigned to Smith River State Park. Up to two positions may be filled. Work is typically from early April through late July. Must be in good physical condition. Must perform outdoor heavy manual tasks and be able to handle a loaded solo or tandem canoe or a raft on a remote river for 3-4 days at a time with another Park/River Ranger or potentially alone. A valid driver's license is required and must be able to drive manual and automatic transmission 4x4 trucks. Work assignments include tasks performed in all kinds of weather and occasionally at other than normal working hours. Typically these positions work 10 days on and 4 days off. Free housing is provided in a 3-bedroom, 2 bath home at Camp Baker. Administrative duties will be performed in a Ranger Station at Camp Baker. Camping with another park ranger or alone during patrols will be required for 3-4 days at a time. Finalists for these positions will be required to provide a copy of college transcripts at the time of interview. Duties: Under supervision of the Smith River State Park Manager, this position is responsible for on-site operations along the Smith River State Parks and River Corridor including registering float groups, explaining regulations, collecting, accounting and depositing fees, providing safety information and assistance, recording visitor use statistics, maintaining Camp Baker, Eden Bridge and boat camp sites, weekly river patrols, incident investigation and reporting, and communicating and assisting the regional headquarters staff. This position must work within a budget and follow purchasing guidelines. This position provides management planning and assistance including preparation of reports, compiling of statistics, data entry and analysis, preparation of maps and charts, presentations to organizations, and participation in meetings and conferences. Perform other duties as assigned. The incumbent may be required to obtain Ex-Officio warden training, and under the supervisor of Enforcement Division, enforce rules and regulations in assigned areas to the limits of their training; coordinates with enforcement division and parks division management to respond to complaints and investigate violations that occur within assigned areas.
