2002 Symposium - Boise, Idaho
The
2002 symposium in Boise is over now, but its effects will be with
us for a long time. A huge success, almost 300 people came to learn,
to grow, to have fun. Former Governor and Secretary of the Interior,
Cecil Andrus, inspired us with his battles to protect some of the
last great places. Noted author, Tim Palmer, delighted us with recounts
of his travels. The legendary musician, Muzzie Braun, entertained
us, as did Basque dancers performing the dances of their region.
And the closing speaker, humorist Patrick McManus, left us laughing.
Along the way, we heard about water management on the Snake River
from Idaho Power Vice-President, John Prescott. We learned about
wild and scenic rivers, protection of Lewis and Clark sites, and
water trails. We discussed the national rivers agenda, and we debated
the health of our watersheds. We listened to presentations with new
twists to old standards like hydropower, allocation and river restoration,
but we added new fields like working effectively with universities
and protecting fishing rights. And along the way, we renewed old
friendships and created new ones.
If you missed the Boise symposium, your next chance will be in May
of 2004 in Lake Tahoe, California. Keep checking back for details. |
